Nature's Peace
For my final project, I wanted to incorporate the busyness of being a student athlete, especially during finals. I constantly feel like I need to be somewhere or have assignments to complete, and I sometimes get caught up in the amount of tasks I need to get done. It made me think about McLuhan's ideas about how "we now live in a global village... a simultaneous happening" (p 63). Sometimes I feel like people become so immersed in their everyday life that they get consumed with working. When I think about office jobs where people are surrounded by cubicles, it makes me think about how everyone is becoming a "global village."
For this video, I wanted it to represent how I often become immersed in my work, but also about how I escape the stress of everyday life. I often look to nature, whether it's going for a walk or looking back on vacations, and it often makes me feel much calmer. I wanted to be able to show this in my video to show how even when life gets busy, there are ways to slow down.
To create this, I knew I wanted to include videos of various vacations I have been on as that is often where I take a lot of videos of nature. I also knew I wanted to include videos of traffic. Every morning I make the walk to campus, which is often surrounded by the noise of traffic, so I wanted to depict that aspect of business that I experience every day. Since for many of us, assignments and exams are what causes stress, I wanted to include that as well. I also thought it would be interesting to layer sounds on top of each other as a way to represent how when I have so many things to complete, they often become scrambled together and the idea of having to complete everything becomes overwhelming.
